Other unmet needs
home > research > Other unmet needs
Years of research effort has significantly contributed to successful treatments for various diseases. Yet, there remain a large number of diseases which have little or no treatments. One reason for this is the limited understanding of the disease mechanism. The other is more related to research viability with its limited incidences not supporting a full blown conventional drug discovery program which has a 12- 15 years of discovery and development effort.

To create therapeutic options for patients with unmet needs, NovaLead is exploring a chemical space which has been found safe for human application by the FDA. On one hand, this minimises the risk of late stage failure in development on account of safety and toxicity. On the other, a new product can reach the needy patients faster given known profile of the candidate.

This program was initiated in February 2006 using VLifeAmadeus screening platform. The speed of progress is evidenced by NovaLead pipeline. This program for generic drugs is undertaken independently by the company. The drugs under patent of the innovator will be investigated through collaborations.

NovaLead is pursuing several indications presently aggressively at the preclinical stage. These indications cover a wide spectrum of unmet needs such as the diabetic wound to gas gangrene.

Subject to satisfactory clinical investigations, NovaLead's new indication discoveries are expected to reach the market in 2 - 3 years. The first candidate to reach the clinical investigation is aimed at diabetic wound and the IND is expected to be filed in first quarter of 2008.
